Everything in its Place

Follow the rules to construct the First Light flag for yourself

Every piece that makes up the Syracuse city flag has been meticulously designed, sized, and placed. Follow the flag construction rules to successfully reproduce the flag for your own purposes.

Step-by-Step Guide

(2:3 aspect ratio)

1. Place the Triangles

Both triangles are right triangles, mirrored across the flag’s vertical midline. Each has a 90° angle in its bottom corner (hoist-side triangle: bottom-left; fly-end triangle: bottom-right), with its hypotenuse running from that side’s top corner down to the midpoint of the bottom edge — meeting at 37° and 53°

2. Build the Star

The star has six points, formed by six identical acute triangles whose vertices meet at the star’s center at 37°

3. Place the Star

The star’s vertical placement is set by stacking 4 identically sized stars point-to-point along the midline and using the 2nd star from the top as the “source star.” Scale the source star proportionally from its center by +2.3x, then center-align it on the x-axis.

4. Apply the Color

The star is Orange, the field is White, the hoist-side triangle is Azure Blue, and the fly-end triangle is Navy Blue — full specs in the table below. Use RGB for digital, CMYK for print, and Pantone for fabric reproductions.
